The clock tower that stands next to the Pardesi Synagogue was built in 1760 by Ezekiel Rahabi, a Jewish businessman. Since the Jewish tradition does not have the custom of ringing bells it is a great mystery as to why the Jewish businessman built it this way. The tower has four faces-one facing the Maharaja's Palace which shows time in Malayalam, another engraved in Roman numerals for the traders, the third side was in Hebrew and the fourth side was kept blank. Though it had stopped working after 1930, the world monument fund has recently restored it.
